When faced with a cancer diagnosis, the last worry on your mind should be a medical bill. And yet, for many oncology patients, the cost of cancer care is a leading concern.

To help relieve this financial burden, SERO offers a variety of flexible payment options. We also strive to connect uninsured patients with resources and relief programs.

Billing Process

After receiving care from a SERO provider, your medical bill will be mailed. You can pay your bill one of three ways:

Pay Your Bill Online

We offer convenient online billing support through our secure digital portal. To pay online, you will need your account number. This can be found on your paper statement.

Pay Your Bill by Phone

After receiving your paper statement, you can call (704) 680-6570 and we will process your credit card information over the phone.

For confidentiality purposes, we will need your account number and other patient-identifying information before we can discuss your account.

If mailing a payment, please detach the payment coupon from your statement and mail it back in the return envelope. An account number must accompany all payments to ensure the payment is correctly applied.

Payment Plan Availability

To accommodate all patients, regardless of income, we offer flexible payment plan options. To establish a payment plan, call (704) 680-6570 to speak with a customer service representative.

Note: If your balance isn’t paid in full in two years, we will send the balance to a collection agency to maintain.

Insurance Accepted at SERO

SERO contracts with most health insurance companies including, but not limited to:

  • Aetna
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield
  • Cigna
  • Humana
  • Medicare/Medicaid
  • UnitedHealthcare

This list of plans is subject to change, so it’s best to confirm coverage with your cancer insurance provider.

Coverage Assistance & Financial Assistance

The Coverage Assistance & Financial Assistance (CAFA) program is designed for uninsured patients who have received hospital inpatient services or observation services. This program also includes hospital outpatient and medical group services that resulted in a balance greater than or equal to $10,000.

Financial Assistance Scoring (FAS)

The Financial Assistance Scoring program is for uninsured patients who have received hospital outpatient or medical group services that resulted in a balance of less than $10,000.

For Patients of Blue Ridge Cancer Center

If you’re currently receiving care at Blue Ridge Cancer Center, you may be eligible for UNC Health Financial Assistance. The program is available to North Carolina residents with a household income at or below 250% of the Federal Poverty Guideline.

For Patients of CaroMont Health

Oncology patients at CaroMont Health facilities may be eligible for the hospital’s Charity Care Program. Eligibility for financial assistance is based on multiple factors, including insurance coverage, income, family size, and more.

For Patients of Frye Regional Cancer Center

Patients receiving care at Frye Regional Cancer Center may be eligible for free or discounted emergency and other medically necessary care. To qualify for the Financial Assistance Program, an uninsured patient’s income must be between 200% and 300% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.

For Patients of Novant Health

If you’re a current patient at a Novant Health facility, you may qualify for Charity Care. If eligible for financial assistance, you will receive a 100% discount or free care.
