At SERO, we like to give our patients the opportunity to get to know our doctors outside of work, just as we strive to get to know our patients. Throughout the year, we will feature interviews with our doctors that show their personal sides: their hobbies, their families, their favorite books and shows. We feel this deepens our relationships with our patients, which allows us to provide better care.

This month, we are honored to feature Dr. Aaron Wild as our provider of the month!

Tell us about your family.

My nuclear family consists of my wife, Elise, who somehow manages to take wonderful care of our home while also working as a speech pathologist specializing in voice therapy, as well as our two dogs, Winni and Penn who are named after our two favorite lakes—Lake Winnipesaukee (mine) and Penn Lake (Elise’s). I have a younger brother who is an architect and a younger sister who works as a college art professor. My father is a civil engineer and my mother is a registered nurse

What do you and your family enjoy doing when you are away from work?

What was your first job?

During high school I worked as a lifeguard at a local beach near my hometown. It was a great way to spend the summer outside.

Do you have a favorite movie, TV series, or book series? Tell us about what you’re currently watching or reading!

Reading has been one of my favorite hobbies ever since childhood when I grew up reading the Boxcar Children, the Hardy Boys, and Goosebumps, among others. While oncology journals account for much of my reading these days, I still try to make time to read for fun as I find curling up with a good book to be one of the most enjoyable ways to spend a few spare hours. Some of my favorites of all time are the Lord of the Rings series by JRR Tolkien, the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan, any Agatha Christie mystery, and historical fiction, especially about the Civil War.

Are there any hobbies you dream about getting into, but haven’t yet?

I am a water sports enthusiast. I have spent a lot of time sailing, swimming, bodysurfing, and waterskiing, but next on the bucket list would be learning to surf and, in the unlikely event that works out, I would then want to move on to learning how to kitesurf and jetsurf. Where I might possibly find the time for all of this, I’m still trying to figure out.

If you could meet any historical figure, who would you choose and why?

I would love to have met Mother Teresa. Her complete dedication of her life to the welfare and well-being of others will always be a source of inspiration for me.
