Educational Opportunities

With years of experience working within SERO’s excellent practice dynamic, our providers were able to share their insights on how having the right teams and methods in place at your practice can improve the quality of patient care.

  • Dr. Christopher D. Corso participated in an educational session for residents, teaching them about important aspects of private practice. He also spoke at the “ASTRO Advocacy Breakfast” about payment reform for the field of radiation oncology.
  • Dr. Roshan S. Prabhu presented on “Starting and Refining a Radiosurgery Program.” He covered state-of-the-art principles of radiosurgery and how to apply them in a practice to establish and grow a high-quality radiosurgery program.

Research Presentations

SERO’s Charlotte cancer doctors presented on a variety of exciting research topics, including lung cancer treatment and chemoradiation for head and neck cancer.

  • Dr. John H. Heinzerling presented on “Advancing the Battle Against Locally Advanced Lung Cancer: Promising Results from a Novel Treatment Approach.” His research found that a new treatment approach that combines stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) with conventional chemoradiation and adjuvant immunotherapy is promising for patients with locally advanced lung cancer.
  • Dr. Matthew C. Ward presented on “Weekly vs. Bolus Cisplatin Concurrent with Definitive Radiotherapy for Squamous Carcinoma of the Head and Neck: A Systematic Review and Network Meta-Analysis.” His research compared two different chemotherapy schedules when given with radiation for head and neck cancer and found that they are likely very similar in terms of their effectiveness and side effects.

The SERO physicians’ presentations at ASTRO 2023 highlight the important work that they are doing to advance the field of radiation oncology and improve the care of cancer patients. Their research is helping to develop new and innovative treatment approaches, and their commitment to excellence is inspiring.
