At SERO, we are honored to work with some of the top providers in the area. During the course of each year, we feature interviews that focus on the lives of our providers outside of the office. Just as we like to get to know our patients on a personal level, we hope that our patients get to know our doctors on a personal level, too. We hope that the relationships that form between our patients and physicians are meaningful ones.

This month, we are proud to feature Bill Bobo, MD, a radiation oncologist, as this month’s featured provider.

William E. Bobo, MD

Tell us about your family.

I have a wonderful wife and three amazing daughters. During my time away from work, I like to spend as much of my free time as possible with the four of them – especially while we’re out on the water. We spend most of our free time at the lake, where you’ll probably find us wakeboarding, waterskiing, or paddleboarding. And, from time to time, we also love to take occasional escapes to the beach.

We also have furry members of our family: our two Huskies. Like all Huskies, ours keep us entertained, comforted, and – of course – vacuuming.

Why Did You Choose to Enter the Field of Radiation Oncology?

During medical school, my rotation in radiation oncology was my favorite one. So much of that had to do with the patients; I found that oncology patients were so rewarding and enjoyable to work with. I also have a lifelong interest in physics that I wanted to use in my career. By choosing radiation oncology, I could have a career that allowed me to spend a lot of time with patients while utilizing my skills in science.

What Else Do You Like to Do in Your Free Time?

When I have some time to myself, I love to read. Not much is better than enjoying a quiet morning with a book. Two of my most instrumental books have been Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand. History is of particular interest to me, also, and one personal goal I have is to read a book on each United States president.

My ideal evening would be sharing a big table with my family and friends as we enjoy a good, big Italian meal – preferably lasagna.
