At SERO, our award-winning providers understand the importance of trust. Mutual trust is the foundation of all patient-clinician relationships and, as research shows, is linked to improved health outcomes. The more comfortable a patient feels, the more likely he or she is to ask questions, discuss symptoms they may not otherwise mention, and even schedule follow-up visits.

Providers can help patients feel more connected and engaged by sharing a few details about themselves. That is why we conduct monthly interviews with our providers during which we ask questions about their lives outside the office.

This month, we are proud to feature Amanda Cromer, NP.

Meet Amanda Cromer, NP

I have been happily married to Chris for more than 20 years. We have four wonderful children: Landon (17), Grayson (14), Karrigan (9), and Kinley (7). Landon, my oldest, is currently a senior in high school, and he recently signed with Lees-McRae College to run with their cross country team beginning Fall 2021. And, of course, I have a 4-year-old fur baby named Maisy, who is a very spoiled Morkie.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

I have worked with oncology patients for more than 15 years, and though it can be difficult, I truly love what I do. It is very humbling to help guide a patient through cancer treatment, particularly if you know that patient is not doing well or is incurable. Perhaps I have been a blessing to someone on their journey, and maybe I have helped alleviate some of their suffering, even if I’ve done nothing else but listen to them. I do not feel as though my work is a job but rather a calling (Colossians 3:23).

What do you like to do in your free time?

My family enjoys being together, whether it’s camping in the mountains, spending time at the beach, or just having pizza and watching a movie on Friday nights at home.
