SERO is proud to recognize Kristina Washington as our April 2025 Provider of the Month. At SERO, we are committed to fostering relationships that go beyond just providing care. It’s important for us to build connections with patients on a deeper level so our providers can deliver exceptional personalized service. We believe the first step is getting to know our team members outside of the office.

This month, we are excited to introduce Kristina Washington. Kristina is one of our dedicated team members with a strong background in oncology care, particularly in radiation therapy treatments. Her personal connection to cancer care through her family history has shaped her compassionate approach to patient care.

Tell us about your family

I am married to my husband, Geno and we have a 2-year-old son, Keon and a 7-year-old fur baby, Ace. We currently live in Charlotte, NC but are both originally from South Carolina. Our son, Keon is the light of our lives and our miracle baby. He was born prematurely at 25 weeks, weighing only 1 lb. After a strong NICU fight, he is now a healthy, active, and thriving toddler who keeps us on the move!

What inspired you to choose your specialty?

I always had a passion to work in the field of oncology due to my family history. I watched my mother; grandmother and two aunts battle breast cancer. My grandfather also had prostate and lung cancer. Radiation therapy played a significant role in their treatments and their win against cancer. I also have prior experience in pulmonology, specifically in the detection of early-stage lung cancer. This experience also piqued my interest in radiation oncology after seeing the overall treatment and survival outcomes for these patients.

Tell us what you are reading or watching

I’m currently reading Yellow Wife by Sadeqa Johnson. It is a historical fiction novel set in the 1800s, following a mixed-race enslaved woman who must choose between love and freedom while living in an infamous slave jail in Virginia. I have a book club, and reading is my main hobby! I’m currently watching Married at First Sight and Abbott Elementary.

Are there any hobbies you want to get involved in?

I would like to get into aerial yoga, piano lessons, and pottery making.

Here at SERO, we prioritize building relationships with each patient and their loved ones, recognizing that these bonds enhance both the quality of care and the healing experience. Our monthly provider interviews reflect our commitment to transparency and community. We want you to know the people caring for you just as we strive to understand your unique needs and concerns. From all of us at SERO, we’re honored you’ve entrusted us with your healthcare journey.
