Meet Noelle Williams, MD, November 2018 Provider of the Month

Posted on November 2, 2018 in Provider of the Month

We are proud of our providers and all the fantastic work they do in our community. Throughout 2018, we have continued to feature interviews starting from our newest provider about life outside of the office.

Noelle Williams, MD is our November 2018 Physician of the Month. Dr. Williams joined Southeast Radiation Oncology Group in July 2018 and treats patients at a number of our locations.

Tell Us About Yourself

I was born and raised in St. Petersburg, FL, and moved to Winston-Salem junior year of high school to attend North Carolina School of the Arts with a concentration in ballet. After high school, I danced professionally with the Atlanta Ballet prior to deciding on a career in medicine. I had an interest in oncology from the very beginning of medical school at University of Florida, but wasn’t introduced to radiation oncology until my third year. The privilege to take care of patients during some of their most vulnerable moments in combination with the rapidly evolving technology drew me to the field.

Tell Us About Your Research Interests

As an oncologist and researcher, I have an interest in treatment-related toxicity and developing ways to identify side effects early. Specifically, I have developed clinical trials implementing real-time early intervention systems based on remote activity tracking and electronic patient-reported outcomes for high-risk patients receiving chemoradiotherapy with the goal to reduce the rate of missed treatments, emergency room visits, and hospitalizations. Ultimately, we aim to demonstrate that this type of remote monitoring will allow us to detect a decline in functional status earlier than conventional means thereby improving our ability to intervene and consequently improve quality of life and outcomes.

What do you and your family enjoy doing when you are away from work?

My fiancé and I moved to Charlotte from Philadelphia over the summer and have enjoyed exploring the city with our two dogs, Griffey and Ollie. We will be getting married in my hometown of St. Pete, FL, in November, so aside from wedding planning, we’ve enjoyed exploring the Greenway, Freedom Park, and have visited the mountains several times. I also love to travel, and my favorite memories are traveling to the coast of Italy and Spain for cycling trips with my parents.
