What Is Radiation Therapy?
Radiation therapy is a localized and typically painless form of cancer treatment. During radiotherapy, a radiation oncologist uses special machines to direct high doses of radiation toward cancer cells. Over time, the radiation destroys the cancer cells and shrinks cancerous lesions. This form of radiation therapy is called external beam radiation therapy.
